Introduction – Alternative VJ Piping Concepts

Important Engineering Notice

The piping configurations presented on this page are preliminary conceptual designs developed by Bayard Inc. for potential integration with Bayard Nitro Mixer multi-station systems.

These designs have not been manufactured, tested, or validated under operating conditions. They are presented for discussion, engineering evaluation, and supplier consultation.

Bayard Inc. does not manufacture or certify the proposed vacuum-jacketed piping assemblies. Final engineering, component selection, fabrication, pressure-relief provisions, safety review, and installation must be performed by qualified cryogenic equipment suppliers and appropriately qualified professionals.

Illustrations are conceptual and should not be used as construction drawings or installation specifications.

Pneumatic Air Reservoir Consideration

A small stainless-steel air reservoir may be considered to provide local compressed-air capacity for pneumatic valve actuation. Its purpose is to help stabilize available air pressure during valve operation and reduce pressure fluctuations associated with long pneumatic tubing runs.

Reservoir sizing, pressure ratings, fittings, and regulator capacity must be evaluated for the actual pneumatic system.

Benefits of Custom Back-Wall VJ Piping & Automated Nitro Mixer Stations

Custom back-wall vacuum-jacketed (VJ) piping creates a clean, professional installation while improving workflow, operator efficiency, and customer engagement.

Key Benefits

  1. Visible Production – Customers watch their ice cream being freshly made with liquid nitrogen, creating an engaging experience.

  2. Better Customer Service – Automation allows operators to focus on customers, orders, and presentation.

  3. Automated Operation – Each Nitro Mixer controls its programmed LN₂ dispensing and mixing cycle for consistent results.

  4. Automatic Shutdown – Stations stop dispensing and mixing when the programmed cycle is complete, eliminating unnecessary LN₂ use.

  5. Organized Workspace – Back-wall VJ piping keeps distribution lines and valve assemblies off the countertop for a clean, professional appearance.

The Customer Experience Advantage

Customers enjoy watching their ice cream being made while employees focus on service. Automated stations and organized piping combine to deliver an engaging experience with improved efficiency and consistency.

Fixed-Orifice Metering Concept

The selected orifice is intended to establish a repeatable LN₂ flow characteristic under defined operating conditions. Final dosing performance must be verified through testing and baseline calibration under the specified operating conditions.

This design offers easier maintenance while keeping the valve assembly independent of the mixer.

Primary Design Objective: Independent Station Purging
The primary design objective is to remove residual nitrogen vapor from an individual station's LN₂ feed line before its next dosing cycle, without disrupting the operation or liquid nitrogen delivery of the other three stations.
Each station is equipped with an independent dosing valve that remains closed when the station is idle. Before initiating a new dosing cycle, the controller activates a timed purge sequence designed to clear residual nitrogen vapor from the selected station's feed line.
A dedicated Loop Gas Trap is incorporated into the station's purge flow path to capture and manage residual nitrogen vapor. The blue arrows indicate the intended vapor flow toward the keep-full device through the Loop Gas Trap, preventing unwanted migration into adjacent station branches.
Design Intent
  • Independent Purging: Purge only the selected station's feed line.
  • Loop Gas Trap: Capture and manage residual nitrogen vapor within the designated purge path.
  • Branch Isolation: Prevent residual nitrogen vapor from migrating into other station branches.
  • Pressure Stability: Minimize pressure disturbances within the shared LN₂ distribution feeder.
  • Consistent Delivery: Maintain reliable LN₂ dosing performance while the other three stations operate simultaneously.
The system is designed to provide independent station purging, controlled vapor management, and consistent LN₂ delivery across all four stations.
